The Greater Salina Community Foundation is pleased to announce a call for applications for a grant to a program or project to benefit health and human services in Saline County.

The grant will be approximately $5,000.  Only one grant will be awarded. This is an opportunity to fund a program or project that has been “waiting in the wings” for needed funds.  Applications must be received no later than April 6, 2010.  Requirements include:

  • Program or project must benefit health and human services, defined as projects or programs that protect the health of Saline County Citizens and provide essential human services.
  • Program or project should be one that will be completed or near completion by October 2010.
  • Applicants must be prepared, if asked, to make a presentation to the donor group on April 28, 2010.

For more information, or an application, visit our Web site at www.gscf.org and click on PET Project.

What is the PET Project?

The PET Project is an annual gathering of young donors who come together with the help of the Greater Salina Community Foundation to offer a significant grant to a program or project to in our community.  The donors pick the area of emphasis, and then the particular project.  The Foundation facilitates the administration and grant process.  This is the sixth year for the PET Project.

There is still an opportunity to join the PET Project as a donor!  Join our group for food, fun and philanthropy!

For more information on the PET Project or this grant opportunity, please call Jenny Stack, Program Coordinator, Greater Salina Community Foundation, at 785-823-1800.

What is the PET Project?
Young donors come together with the help of the Greater Salina Community Foundation to offer a significant grant to a program or project of their choice. The donors pick the project. The Foundation facilitates the administration and grant process.

Why is it important?
Making a philanthropic gift to a nonprofit organization in our community makes it a better place for all of us. By pooling your contribution with many others, we can make a more significant impact on a particular program or project. Together, our dollars can be more powerful, more helpful, and make a bigger difference.

Make a little commitment to be part of something BIG.

How does it work?
PET Project participants are asked to:

Contribute a minimum of $125 per person or $250 per couple to the project
Assist in the selection of the grant recipient – (serve on the steering committee, or just attend the donor luncheon, hear the presentations and cast your vote)
Attend the celebration reception to hear about how the grant dollars were spent

The Greater Salina Community Foundation will:

Facilitate the grant selection process based on information from the survey you complete
Provide at least a partial match to the funds raised to establish an endowment for future PET Project grants
Host the grant selection event and the celebration reception/grant reporting event

Spend a little time; make a BIG impact in our community.

When do we see results?
If you choose to participate in the PET Project, you will have an opportunity to join us three different times throughout the year. In the spring, we will gather to introduce the project to new members and to vote on the area in which the group wishes to make the grant. A few weeks later, project participants are invited to lunch to hear presentations and select the grant recipient. Finally, in the fall, participants are invited to join us for a final reception and celebration to hear from the grant recipient regarding how your grant dollars were used.

If you are interested in joining the PET project, give us a call (785-823-1800) or send an email and we will be happy to add you to our invitation list!
